ABSTRACT
The present work aims to accomplish a critical review to explain the responsible mechanisms for the degradation of the union, as well as to analyze the information of the literature and to propose measures for the accomplishment of more durable restorations. In spite of the technological progress that it provided the appearance of more aesthetic and resistant resins to the wear and tear, these materials still present problems in relation to the obtaining and preservation of the sealing proportionate for the adhesive system. Revising the literature about this problem, the enzymatic attack to the collagen fibers exposed, as well as the dissolution of the components of the bonding agent seem to explain the mechanism of degradation of the long term adhesion. Of that it sorts things out, changes in the clinical protocol like the chlorhexidine application or EDTA have been proposed seeking to increase the union stability tooth - restoration.
