Sobre o envelhecimento, a mídia e a morte no contemporâneo / About the aging, the media and death in contemporary times

RESUMO

Este artigo tem como objetivo dialogar com os discursos circulantes sobre a morte na mídia. As problematizações são realizadas sob a ótica dos Estudos Culturais. Aponta-se um breve histórico a respeito da mídia e o modo como se da visibilidade a morte. Os discursos que os meios de comunicação fazem circular interpelam os sujeitos para a produção da morte pacifica e controlada, facilitando o governo dos processos vitais, por parte do sujeito, da família e dos profissionais de saúde. Controlar a vida e a morte, minimizando riscos e sofrimentos, torna-se um imperativo sob o qual os indivíduos estão expostos e são subjetivados. Dessa forma, a constituição de sujeitos que governam suas vidas torna-se produtivo devido aos comportamentos de segurança e proteção que somos levados a adotar. Para além, as responsabilidades e cuidados que assumimos repercutem para a boa organização social.

ABSTRACT

This article aims to discuss the discourses about death in the media. The discussion is conducted from the perspective of cultural studies. We present a short history about the media and how it gives visibility to death. The discourses the media circulate invite subjects to produce a peaceful and controlled death, facilitating the government of vital processes, by the subject, the person’s family and health professionals. To control life and death, minimizing risks and sufferings, it might be an imperative individuals are exposed to and subjectified. Thus, the constitution of subjects who control their lives becomes productive because of safety and security activities that we tend to adopt. In addition, the responsibilities and care we made have an impact for good social organization.
