RESUMEN
Introducción:
la salud de las personas en México se ve actualmente afectada por las enfermedades cardiovasculares, entre las que incide la hipertensión arterial como el principal precursor de estas, con un nivel de adherencia seriamente comprometido, pese a existir un tratamiento efectivo para su control.Objetivo:
El propósito de este estudio fue analizar la relación entre la adhesión al tratamiento y su efecto basado en el nivel socioeconómico en pacientes con hipertensión arterial en una población mexiquense, durante diciembre de 2010. Materiales yMétodos:
Estudio descriptivo transversal, en una muestra de 161 pacientes adultos mayores.Resultados:
Los resultados evidenciaron promedio de edad 56±14 años; 83% de ellos, son mujeres con menos de cinco años de escolaridad; cabe destacar la relación significativa entre las variables de adherencia y el control de la presión arterial. Discusión yConclusiones:
Los resultados reflejan la necesidad de disminuir las cifras elevadas de padecimientos, incluso decesos, por esta enfermedad. No cabe duda que el nivel socioeconómico de la población representa uno de los probables mecanismos implicados en la incidencia de hipertensión arterial.ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between treatment adherence and its effect based on socioeconomic level in hypertense patients in a population in the State of Mexico in December 2010. Materials andMethods:
A cross sectional study in a sample of 161 elderly hypertense patients.Results:
age average 56 ± 14 years; 83% are woman with 5 years or less of schooling; it is worth mentioning the significative links between the variables of adherence and blood pressure control. Discussion andConclusions:
Results reflect the need to improve the disturbing and deadly high levels of arterial pressure. There is no doubt that the effect of socioeconomic status in the population behind the results as one of the possible mechanisms involved in the incidence of arterial hypertension.
