Caracterização da pesquisa odontológica experimental em animais / Characterization of experimental dental research using animals

RESUMO

Objetivo: Determinar o perfil da pesquisa odontológica experimental em animais. Métodos: O universo compreendeu todos os 4 141 resumos existentes nos livros de anais das 22ª e 23ª Reuniões Anuais da Sociedade Brasileira de Pesquisa Odontológica, sendo a amostra composta por 377 trabalhos (9,1%). As variáveis analisadas foram: área de conhecimento, tipo de instituição, Estado do país, tipo de animal e local do corpo utilizado, ocorrência de sacrifício do animal, menção ao Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa, recebimento de fomento e tipo de agência de fomento. Resultados: As áreas de Cirurgia Bucomaxilofacial (27,3%) e Ciências Básicas (21,2%) concentraram o maior número de estudos. As universidades públicas responderam por 74% das pesquisas, destacando-se as instituições estaduais (82,4%). O Estado de São Paulo foi responsável por 74,1% dos estudos. Os ratos (67,1%) e os coelhos (11,1%) foram os animais mais utilizados, sendo que 68,2% dos animais foram sacrificados. A cavidade bucal foi utilizada em 50,1% das pesquisas e a mandíbula em 59%. Apenas 1,9% dos trabalhos mencionaram o Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa e 26,3% relataram o recebimento de fomento. Conclusão: Em Odontologia, estudos envolvendo animais são predominantes nas áreas de cirurgia bucomaxilofacial e das ciências básicas, sendo os ratos e os coelhos os animais mais comumente utilizados. Um significativo número de cobaias é sacrificado durante ou ao final dos experimentos.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine the profile of experimental dental research using animals. Methods: The research comprised all the 4141 abstracts existent in the books of annals from the 22nd and 23rd Annual meetings of the Brazilian Society of Dentistry Research and the sample was composed of 377 studies (9.1%). The variables analyzed were: area of knowledge, type of institution, State of the country, type of animal and body part used, occurrence of animal sacrifice, mention of the Research Ethics Committee, receipt of funding and type of financing agency. Results: The largest number of studies concentrated on the areas of Buccomaxillofacial Surgery (27.3%) and Basic Sciences (21.2%). The Public Universities were responsible for 74% of the researches, and the State Institutions were outstanding (82.4%). The State of São Paulo was responsible for 74.1% of the studies. Rats (67.1%) and rabbits (11.1%) were the most frequently used animals, and 68.2% of the animals were sacrificed. The oral cavity was used in 50.1% of the researches and the mandible in 59%. Only 1.9% of the studies mentioned the Research Ethics Committee and 26.3% reported that they received funding. Conclusion: In Dentistry, studies involving animals are predominant in the areas of buccomaxillofacial surgery and basic sciences, with rats and rabbits being most frequently used. A significant number of guinea pigs are sacrificed during or at the end of the experiments.
