Temporomandibular disorders were diagnosed in 49.3% of respondents, 38.5% of which had mild temporomandibular dysfunction, 7.4% had moderate temporomandibular dysfunction and 3.4% had severe temporomandibular dysfunction, treatment being required in the last two situations. According to the evaluation of parafunctional habits of patients with temporomandibular disorders, 89.5% ground their teeth, 73.3% clenched their teeth, 50% bit their fingernails, 76.2% bit objects, 69.2% chewed bubblegum and 57.1% bit their cheeks. Conclusion: Temporomandibular disorders were present in approximately half of the population of the study with a significant association with the parafunctional habits analyzed.
