Introduction:
The work capacity becomes an instrument of wide-reaching that references the health condition of workers. Objectives:
To evaluate the Work Capacity Index (WCI) and conditions of health of workers with physical disabilities of a higher learning institution in João Pessoa/PB.Method:
This is an observational, transversal and quantitative study, assessed by the WCI of 13 Workers with Physical Disabilities (TCDF) and 13 without physical disabilities (TSDF).Results:
Significant differences were found (p = 0.0076), identifying that the TSDF showed mean score of WCI highest level (45.15 ± 4.25), characterizing great working capacity, and the TCDF (3.66 ± 40.62) with good WCI. When the WCI was compared with the worker to have or not physical disability, we obtained (p = 0.021). The TCDF group had lesions in the column, legs and feet, while in the TSDF group the spinal injury predominated. Conclusion:
It was found that health status is associated with the WCI and that the TCDF workers, even showing more commitments regarding musculoskeletal disorders, are able to perform work activities with independence and autonomy in their jobs. (AU)
