RESUMEN

Los tratamientos de ortodoncia consumen mucho tiempo, ya que por lo general toman cerca de 2 o más años en completarse. La reducción de su duración es altamente deseable. El procedimiento de cierre de espacios primero (closing first), es una modificación de la secuencia mecánica tradicional, con el objetivo de acortar el tiempo de tratamiento, en casos donde se efectúan extracciones. Consiste en que, realizado el acto quirúrgico, se comienza rápidamente con la movilización individual del canino. Se aprovecha el fenómeno de aceleración regional (RAP), producido por la agresión al hueso alveolar, que estimula las células de la zona, produciendo un desplazamiento dental más veloz. Una vez ubicado el canino en posición, se alinea y nivela la arcada y se cierran los espacios incisivos con un arco con ansas, para luego realizar la etapa de finalización. El procedimiento es efectivo y posee una serie de ventajas, en comparaciópn con las maniobras promocionadas actualmente de aceleración del tratamiento, ya sean quirúrgicas o biomecánicas. ABSTRACT

Orthodontic treatments take a lot of time, since they usually take about 2 or more years to complete. The reduction of its duration is highly desirable. The closing first procedure is a modification of the traditional mechanical sequence with the aim of shortening the treatment time in cases in which extractions are performed. It consists in quickly beginning with the distal individual movement of the canine after the surgical procedure. It is taken advantage of the regional acceleratory phenomenon (RAP) produced by the insult to the alveolar bone, that stimulates the cells of the zone causing a faster dental movement. Once the canine is placed in position, the arch is aligned and leveled, the incisive spaces are closed with looped arch to perform the completion stage then. The procedures is effective and has a number of advantages in comparison with the currently promoted technical maneuvers of treatment acceleration, whether surgical or biomechanical. The purpose of this paper is to describe the closing first procedure.
