Estilos parentais em famílias com filhos em idade escolar / Parenting styles in families with school age children

RESUMO

Os estilos parentais referem-se ao padrão de práticas educativas que os pais utilizam com seus filhos. Para conhecer os estilos educativos de pais de crianças em idade escolar, foi realizada uma investigação com 153 pais de estudantes de nove escolas da região do Vale do Rio dos Sinos. Como instrumentos foram utilizados uma ficha de dados sociodemográficos, a Escala de Estilos Educativos e o Inventário de Estilos Parentais. Preponderou o estilo autoritativo, seguido pelo autoritário e, por fim, pelo permissivo. Além disso, verificou-se que 28,6% dos pais classificaram-se como tendo estilo parental ótimo, 26,5% regular acima da média, 33,7% regular abaixo da média e 11,2% estilo parental de risco. Constata-se que, ainda que seja preponderante o estilo parental ótimo e autoritativo, é elevado o número de pais que se classificam como regular abaixo da média ou de risco (44,9%), o que demanda um olhar atento para futuras intervenções.

ABSTRACT

Parenting styles refer to the standard of educational practices that parents use with their children. With a view to investigating the educational style of parents of school-age children a research program with 153 parents of children from nine schools in the region of Vale do Rio dos Sinos was carried out. Parents answered a questionnaire consisting of socio-demographic data, Scale of Education Styles and Inventory of Parenting Styles. The authoritative style prevailed, followed by authoritarian and finally permissive. Moreover, 28.6% of parents classified themselves as having very good parenting style, 26.5% regular and above average, 33.7% regular and below average and 11.2% at risk. It appears from this study that although the very good and authoritative parenting style is predominant, there is a high number of parents who classified themselves as below average and at risk (44.9%), a fact which demands a closer look for future interventions.
