Sobrecarga do cuidador familiar do idoso dependente / Dependent elderly family caregiver overload

RESUMO

O envelhecimento está relacionado ao surgimento das doenças crônicas que podem incapacitar, levando à necessidade de cuidados nas atividades da vida diária. Geralmente o familiar responsabiliza-se pelo cuidado. Este estudo objetivou descrever o perfil de cuidadores familiares de idosos dependentes cadastrados em uma unidade de saúde em Curitiba e analisar a sobrecarga do cuidador familiar. O método empregado foi exploratório descritivo, com abordagem quantitativa realizada em uma Estratégia de Saúde da Família com cuidadores familiares de idosos dependentes. Participaram 42 cuidadores de idosos, predominantemente filhos, com idade superior a 60 anos, sexo feminino, casados e cuidadores em tempo integral. Todos os cuidadores apresentaram sobrecarga. Os resultados evidenciam a importância dos profissionais de saúde darem maior atenção aos cuidadores familiares de idosos, pois a sobrecarga do cuidado vulnerabiliza os cuidadores para o surgimento de doenças (AU).

ABSTRACT

Aging is related to the appearance of chronic diseases that can be incapacitating, leading to the need for care in the activities of daily living. Generally, the family member takes the responsibility for the care. This study aimed to describe the profile of family caregivers of dependent elderly enrolled in a health care unit in the city of Curitiba, and to analyze the family caregiver overload. The method used was descriptive exploratory, with a quantitative approach, and was performed in a Family Health Strategy unit with dependent elderly people family caregivers. The participants included 42 caregivers of the elderly, predominantly their children, who were older than 60 years, female, married, and full-time caregivers. All caregivers had an overload. The results highlight the importance of health professionals giving greater attention to family caregivers of the elderly, because care overload makes the caregivers vulnerable to the emergence of diseases (AU).
