Introduction:
Damage to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) represents about 50% of all ligament injuries. Objective:
To analyze the electromyographic activity of the quadriceps during the squat movement and knee function in one subject undergoing ACL surgical reconstruction. Methods:
Observational study of qualitative and quantitative nature. One subject, male, 16 years old, football player, with 3 months postoperatively participated in the study. We used an EMG to collect the electrical activity of the quadriceps muscle (RF + VL + VMO), the Lysholm knee scale to evaluate symptoms and function and an evaluation form. He performed 3 replicates of Maximum Voluntary Isometric Contraction (MVIC) in 6 seconds and three squats up to 60 degrees. For analysis, it was compared the values of the surgical knee and contralateral knee by percentage of Root Mean Square (RMS).Results:
EMG activity of the quadriceps with injured ACL remained lower in 3 muscles analyzed in relation to the contralateral knee; functionality evaluated by Lysholm scale achieved results "excellent".Conclusion:
There was inhibition of the quadriceps after ACL reconstruction in the squat movement in the subject studied and the function of the lower limb is preserved. (AU)
