De perto e de longe: um estudo sobre as representações da morte entre médicos de CTI / Of near and far: a study of the representations of death among medical ICU

RESUMO

A morte não se explica unicamente como a interrupção das funções vitais. Como fenômeno sócio-cultural possui significados os mais diversos, sempre associados a contextos, sujeitos e universos simbólicos próprios. Pode-se dizer que é um fenômeno polissêmico. Este estudo procurou compreender com a ajuda da abordagem antropológica, as representações e os significados que médicos que atuam em Centros de Terapia Intensiva constroem sobre a morte. Com o objetivo de elucidar essas questões, além de uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o assunto, desenvolveu-se um trabalho de campo por meio da realização de entrevistas com profissionais que trabalham em dois diferentes Centros de Terapia Intensiva ­ CTI Neonatal e CTI Pronto Socorro, ou seja, um que cuida de situações de nascimento e outro que lida com riscos de morte. A análise desses dados apontou para o fato de que, para além da formação técnica e ética, sua condição de sujeitos culturais e suas diferentes vivências e percepções atuam na definição dos valores atribuídos à morte.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The death is explained not only as the interruption of vital functions. As socio-cultural phenomenon has meant the most diverse, always associated with contexts, subjects and own symbolic universes. You could say that it is a polysemic phenomenon. This study sought to understand with the help of an anthropological approach, the representations and meanings that doctors working in the Intensive Care Centers build on the death. Aiming to elucidate these issues and a literature review on the subject, has developed a fieldwork through interviews with professionals working in two different centers of Intensive Care ­ Neonatal ICU and Emergency Department ICU, or, one who takes care of situations of birth and the other dealing with risks of death. The data analysis pointed to the fact that, in addition to technical training and ethics, his status as cultural subjects and their different experiences and perceptions involved in the definition of the values assigned to death.(AU)
