RESUMO
A Política Nacional de Assistência Estudantil (PNAES), instituída a partir de 2008 nas universidades públicas, visa propiciar condições de permanência e promover a democratização do acesso, contudo, contradições inerentes comprometem a sua efetividade e desafios são colocados ao Serviço Social. O estudo objetiva demonstrar o desenvolvimento dos programas de assistência aos estudantes na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina e discutir os desafios profissionais para este campo. Baseia-se na análise documental de dados quantitativos e qualitativos. Os resultados sugerem que houve ampliação de todos os programas assistenciais; que o perfil socioeconômico do estudante atendido é inferior ao da totalidade dos estudantes do meio universitário; e que os desafios para assegurar a efetividade da política envolvem a insuficiência de recursos financeiros e humanos, sendo o Assistente Social o principal responsável pela permanência a partir da complexa tarefa de selecionar os estudantes a serem atendidos.
ABSTRACT
The Brazilian Student Assistance Policy (PNAES), established from 2008 in federal universities, aims to promote educational attainment through attendance and the democratization of access, although some contradictions compromise its effectiveness and challenges are set to Social Work. This study aims to demonstrate how the student assistance programs are being developed in the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and discuss the professional challenges for this course of action. The study is based on quantitative and qualitative documental analysis. The results suggest the expansion of all programs and actions and that the student socioeconomic profile attended by UFSC is lower than the totality of the whole UFSC students. The results also suggest that there are challenges to assure the effectiveness of policy involving insufficient financial and human resources, being social works considered the main responsible for the student attendance from the complex task of selecting students which will be granted.
