RESUMO
O objetivo do presente trabalho foi investigar as imagens e significados do câncer infantil junto à enfermarias atuantes na área da Oncologia Pediátrica, através da metodologia da pesquisa qualitativa de inspiração fenomenológica. Foram realizadas entrevistas com 9 destas profissionais a partir da questão orientadora “Eu gostaria que você descrevesse o que pensa a respeito do câncer infantil”. A análise compreensiva dos relatos mostrou formas de sentir e pensar a doença e as experiências vividas através do cuidado à criança doente. Diferentes imagens e significados do câncer infantil permearam os relatos, evidenciando a importância da dimensão subjetiva vivencial na assistência como um todo. Em suas descrições, as enfermeiras falaram sobre as dificuldades geradas no confronto com a doença e com a criança doente, manifestaram necessidade de afastamento da realidade do câncer infantil assim como de transcender limites técnicos, profissionais e da própria condição humana. Apontaram ainda as limitações de ordem institucional da assistência e mencionaram sentimentos de despreparo e do esforço pessoal para o cuidado assim como os sentimentos de gratificação profissional e existencial relacionados ao trabalho na área. O tema da morte e os aspectos ligados à relação enfermeira-paciente são retomados na reflexão final, e a questão do preparo do profissional de saúde é discutida.
ABSTRACT
The goal of this study was to investigate the images and meanings of children’s cancer help by nurses working on Pediatric Oncology area, through a qualitative research methodology with a phenomenological perpective. Interviewing was done with nine nurses starting with a guide question “I would like you to describe what you think about children’s cancer. The comprehensive analysis of accounts, presented nurse’s ways of feeling an thinking the disease and their experiences while taking care of sick children. Different images and meanings appeared on nurse’s accounts, sowing the importance of the subjective dimension of experience for the care as a whole. In their descriptions, the nurses reported the difficulties that emerged in confronting the disease and the sick child, presented the need to stand aloof of the reality of children’s cancer as to transcend the technical and professional limits and even the limits of the human condition. The nurses pointed also, the limitations of institucional order for assistance and mentioned that they were feeling unprepared and having a personal effort to care, and having feeling of professional and existential rewards related to working in this area. The theme of death and aspects related to nurse-patient relationship are presented at the final reflection, and the issue of preparation of health professional is discussed.
