RESUMEN

Introducción:

el sobrepeso y la obesidad en la población escolar es una problemática social que afecta de manera directa a los niños de 5-11 años. La Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición, realizada entre el 2011-2013, desvela que en la República del Ecuador el sobrepeso y la obesidad infantil se han elevado al nivel de los países occidentales. Por disposición del Ministerio de Educación de la República del Ecuador, en el año lectivo 2014-2015, la carga horaria de la asignatura de Educación Física aumentó de dos a cinco horas semanales.

Objetivo:

determinar si dicha medida política produjo un efecto significativo sobre el peso corporal de los escolares.

Métodos:

estudio longitudinal pre y post tratamiento.

Resultados:

pese a que la población total aumenta significativamente de peso, índice de masa corporal y percentil del mismo, la medida fue efectiva para los sujetos que tenían sobrepeso u obesidad.

Conclusiones:

las medidas políticas fueron efectivas únicamente para precisamente la población más en riesgo de padecer patologías relacionas con dichas franjas de peso e IMC(AU)
ABSTRACT

Introduction:

Overweight and obesity in the school population is a social problem that directly affects children aged 5-11. The National Health and Nutrition Survey conducted from 2011 to 2013, reveals that in the Republic of Ecuador, overweight and childhood obesity have risen to the level of Western countries. By order of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Ecuador, in the academic year 2014-2015, the hours of the subject of Physical Education increased from two to five hours per week.

Objective:

Determine if this political decision had a significant effect on the body weight of schoolchildren.

Methods:

A longitudinal study was conducted before and after treatment.

Results:

Although the total population significantly increased in weight, body mass index and percentile of the same, the decision was effective for the subjects who were overweight or obese.

Conclusions:

The political decisions were effective only for the population at most risk of suffering pathologies related to these weight bands and BMI(AU)
