RESUMO
Este estudo objetiva uma reflexão teórica a respeito da importância de dar voz e escutar a memória coletiva e a história de vida de pessoas idosas, uma vez que estas podem contribuir para sua própria identidade, como também para a propagação de saberes para outras gerações. É notório que a sociedade contemporânea não outorga a essa parcela da população o devido valor e respeito, sendo que, muitas vezes as pessoas idosas são vistas como sem função. No entanto, a pessoa idosa deve ser compreendida como ser social, potencial transmissor de memória dos grupos sociais a que pertence e patrimônio para a sociedade.
ABSTRACT
This study aims at a theoretical reflection about the importance of giving voice and listen to the collective memory and history of life of older people, since they can contribute their own identity, but also to spread knowledge to other generations. It is clear that contemporary society does not grant this population due weight and respect, and, often, the elderly are seen as no function. However, the elderly should be understood as a social being, potential transmitter of collective memories of the social groups to which he belongs and wealth for society.
