Resumo Introdução:
A família constrói crenças sobre a dependência química, as quais geralmente são compartilhadas entre seus membros familiares e repercutem na sua funcionalidade.Objetivo:
Descrever as crenças restritivas e facilitadoras sobre a dependência de drogas, na perspectiva de pais que convivem com o problema.Método:
Estudo de caso de uma família a partir da abordagem qualitativa. Os participantes consistiram em progenitores de um dependente de substâncias psicoativas. Realizou-se entrevista em profundidade e análise de conteúdo temática.Resultados:
Surgiram como crenças restritivas a superproteção parental como motivo de consumo de substâncias psicoativas do filho e preconceito social sofrido pelos pais. Crenças facilitadoras esperança dos pais na cura do dependente, através da internação; a família possui forças para o enfrentamento da situação, através de apoio religioso e familiar.Conclusão:
As crenças restritivas e facilitadoras precisam ser, respectivamente, desafiadas e promovidas tanto pelas famílias como pelos profissionais de saúde para promover o bem-estar familiar.ABSTRACT

The family builds beliefs about chemical dependence, which are shared among their family members and impact on their functionality.Objective:
To describe the restrictive and facilitating beliefs about drug addiction, from the perspective of parents living with the problem.Method:
Case study of one family with a qualitative approach. Participants consisted of parents of a psychoactive substance dependents. An in-depth interview and analysis of thematic content was carried out.Results:
Restrictive beliefs were parental overprotection as a reason for the child's psychoactive substance use and social prejudice suffered by the parents. Facilitating beliefs involved the parents hope's for the cure of the dependent, through hospitalization; the family has the strengths to coping with the situation through religious and family support.Conclusion:
Restrictive and facilitative beliefs need to be challenged and promoted by both families and health professionals to promote familiar well-being.
