ABSTRACT
The association between ulcerative colitis and cerebral venous thrombosis has been described in several articles. In half of the patients alterations in coagulation have been found, which predispose these thrombotic events, while 50% do not have any alteration. A low incidence has been reported (3.3% approx.) in pediatric population and the clinical presentation consists of headache, seizures, neurological deficit and loss of consciousness. The diagnosis of colitis is mainly performed by endoscopy and the venous thrombosis by magnetic resonance imaging and cerebral venography. The treatment of choice is the use of heparins of low molecular weight.
