RESUMO

A aplicação de técnicas estatísticas aos dados clínicos requer, antes de tudo, a consideração que a Medicina não é ciência exata, nem o paciente uma máquina com peça avariada. A objetividade é indispensável na tomada das decisões clínico-terapêuticas, mas é preciso sempre considerar que "não existe doença, mas doente", e o paciente está inserido em seu contexto pessoal, familiar, social, enfrentando desafios pessoais, em busca de seu bem-estar, que é definido, muitas vezes, por ele mesmo. Este é o maior desafio da medicina de excelência procurar ser o mais exato possível no meio de tantas incertezas. (AU)

ABSTRACT

The application of statistical techniques to clinical data requires, first and foremost, the consideration that medicine is not an exact science, nor is the patient a machine with a defective part. Objectivity is indispensable in making clinical-therapeutic decisions, but it is always necessary to consider that "there is no disease, but sick", and the patient is inserted in his personal, familiar, social context, facing personal challenges in search of his well-being , which is often defined by himself. This is the greatest challenge of medicine of excellence to seek to be as exact as possible in the midst of so many uncertainties. (AU)
