OBJECTIVE:
To compare the effect of different acid etching times (0, 10, 20 and 30 seconds) on the bond strength of a self-etching adhesive system in bovine enamel. MATERIALS ANDMETHODS:
This study was experimental, in-vitro. Eight bovine teeth were used, randomized, of which 120 specimens were obtained; they were divided into 4 groups (n=30); according to the different acid etching times at 37 % (Scotch-bond-3M Espe); control group (G1 without acid etching) and three experimental groups (G210, G3 20 and G4 30 seconds) using a self-etching adhesive system (All-Bond Universal. Bisco). A microtensile test was applied to all the specimens obtained at a speed of 1.0 mm/min. Univariate analysis was performed, then a bivariate analysis One-Way ANOVA and finally Tukey Ìs HSD Post Hoc test. The confidence interval was 95% and the significance criteria was p<0,05.RESULTS:
The average of bond strength of the 4 groups of different acid etching times evaluated were Group 1 16.81 MPa (SD ± 4.95), Group 2 26.23 MPa (SD ± 5.60), Group 3 25.29 MPa (SD ± 7.43) and Group 4 20.19 MPa (SD ± 3.55). It was found among these averages statistically significant differences p<0.001. Comparisons were made by groups using bivariate analysis One-Way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD Post-Hoc, with the followingresults:
When comparing groups 1 and 2 (0 sec.- 10 sec); p-value=0.000, groups 1 and 3 (0 sec. - 20 sec); p-value=0.000 and groups 2 and 4 (10 sec. - 30 sec.); p-value=0.000.CONCLUSION:
There were statistically significant differences when comparing different acid etching times (control group and the three experimental groups) on the bond strength of a self-etching adhesive system in bovine enamel. Group 2 had a higher bond strength. (AU)
