Production of invertase and ethyl alcohol from cane molasses by immobilized cells of saccharomyces cerevisiae y-1347

ABSTRACT

In order to improve the metabolic activities, the immobilization technique was adapted using Ca-alginate as an entrapping gel and a 3% gel concentration was found to be the most adequate gel level to attain higher metabolic activities by immobilized culture of S. cerevisiae Y-1347 upon using static flask cultures. The entrapped culture could be repeatedly used in batch-wise fermentation successfully for at least 3 times as suspended in distilled water
