ABSTRACT
Molecular complexes of 1-hydrazinophthalazine with some aromatic nitro compounds are prepared and investigated applying IR and electronic absorption spectroscopy. The results revealed that complex formation takes place only through pi-electron transfer in case of non-acidic and weak acidic acceptors. With strong acidic acceptors the reaction occurs through both electron and proton transfer; the phthalazine ring being the moiety involved in the reaction. The charge transfer energies for some of the complexes are calculated from the electronic absorption spectra
