Correlative study between cytokines, insulin and glucagon in different diabetes mellitus varieties

ABSTRACT

To study cytokines, insulin and glucagon in different varieties of diabetes mellitus, 50 cases were selected and divided into ten normal volunteers [healthy and normoglycemic] as control subjects, 20 patients with NIDDM [glucosuria, fasting and postprandial hyperglycemia] and 20 patients with IDDM [severe hyperglycemia]. Fasting blood samples were collected from all cases and the serum were separated and frozen at -20C until measuring cytokines [TNF-alpha, IL-1B and IL-6], C-reactive protein [CRP], insulin and glucagon.
