ABSTRACT
The antiulcer effect of solcoseryl against indomethacin induced gastric ulceration is the rat as well as the effect of solcoseryl on the anti-inflammatory activity of indomethacin was studied. Intraperitoneal [I.P.] injection of indomethacin in a dose of 5 mg/kg once daily for 10 consecutive days produced severe gastric ulceration. Administration of solcoseryl in a dose of 3 ml/kg I.P. daily for 10 consecutive days concomitant with indomethacin resulted in a marked reduction in the ulcerogenic effect of indomethacin as indicated by reduction in the ulcer index. On the other hand, the anti-inflammatory activity of indomethacin [10 mg/kg, I.P.] in carrageenin induced rat hind paw edema model was not affected by concomitant injection of solcoseryl [3 ml/kg, I.P.]. In case of carrageenin induced rat granuloma pouch, a combination of indomethacin [5 mg/kg, I.P.] and solcoseryl [3 ml/kg, I.P.] given daily to the rats for 5 days did not alter the anti-inflammatory activity of indomethacin when compared with the results obtained in case of administration of indomethacin [5 mg/kg I.P.] alone for the same period
