Paternal bone grafting for aggressive and recurrent aneurismal bone cyst in young children

ABSTRACT
A review of 6 patients with aneurysmal bone cyst involving different anatomic locations in the skeleton who were evaluated and staged according to Enneking et al., system as 2 active benign lesions [33.3%] and 4 aggressive benign lesions [66.7%]. 3 of them [50%] were presented with local recurrence of the cyst after a pervious operative curettage and autogenous bone grafting. Meticulous curettage was achieved in all patients and paternal bone grafting was applied. The mean age at surgery was 6 years old. Union was achieved in all the cases at an average of 6.3 months. As regard the complications was in one case of partial graft resorption, one case with residual coxa vara which corrected after cyst healing. The mean follow up period was 16.6 months. The use of the paternal bone graft to fill cavities is safe without any major immediate or late complications to the child or the parents. The functional results of the procedure were rated as excellent in all the cases. The end results of the procedure are justifiable for tumor surgery provides cyst healing and ossification with sufficient biological strength and durability with a stable limb and excellent functional end
