Experience with vesicostomy in children

ABSTRACT
Between November, 1983 and June, 1985 nine patients underwent Vesicostomy. In seven there was advanced obstructive uropathy, due to urethral valves. In the only female patient, the obstruction was at bladder outlet due to mucosal flap accompanied by an interureteric bar. One patient had severe urinary tract infection causing dysuria and urinary obstruction. Infection did not respond to the catheter drainage and antibiotics. There was one post operative death, due to septicemia related to improper functioning of the vesicostomy. In all the surviving patients, there was remarkable improvement in their general condition and their urinary tract
