ABSTRACT
Sixty patients [40 males and 20 females] of chronic maxillary sinusitis, selected in E.N.T. out patient were diagnosed on the basis of subjective symptoms, objective signs and routine investigations. Aerobic culture of nasal swab showed non-pathogenic organisms in 70 per cent cases, whereas, aerobic culture of antral washout exhibited growth of pseudomonas aeruginosa in 50 per cent cases. All the patents were treated by bilateral antrum puncture through inferior meatus, irrigation with isotonic normal saline solution and injection of Dexamethasone 1ml, Chloromyanalysed on the basis of relief of symptoms and findings on radiological examination. Clinical symptoms disappeared in 80 per cent of the cases after single irrigation and local administration of drugs, whereas in remaining cases three or more irrigations were required. Radiological examination of sinuses revealed a reduction in the thickness of mucosa of maxillary sinuses
