ABSTRACT
The use of argon laser to excise a small palpebral marginal lesion that closely surrounds the ciliary roots is an efficient, safe, and convenient option. It has the advantages of [1] being simpler than the conventional surgical procedures, [2] convenience doing in office, [3] better surgical control, [4] no or minimal loss of cilia, [5] no bleeding, [6] no need for sutures, [7] and less postoperative scarring. The procedure may even be performed under topical anesthesia. The technique involves creating a girdle of laser applications around the base of the lesion, then grasping the lesion in a forceps and lifting or rotating it to place the tissues of the base under tension during photoablation. As the procedure involves tissue resections [ablation] of microscpic dimensions and also allows a totally bloodless operative field, the surgical trauma to ciliary roots is easily avoided. Argon laser excision of a small eyelid margin papilloma was very successful with excellent results in three patients. The technique may also be helpful in removal of pedunculated lesions in other areas, such as conjunctiva. [Pakistan Journal of Ophthalmology, Volume 1055-57, April and July, 1994]
