ABSTRACT
Complete dentures were constructed for nine completely edentulous patients. The fitting surface of each denture was replaced twice by a semipermanent soft liner and a tissue conditioner. After one week of insertion, the dentures were immersed in 4% methylene blue for 15 minutes to disclose the plaque accumulated on the fitting surface. A planimeter was used to measure the surface area of the stained plaque. The results showed that lower dentures had greater tendency to plaque accumulation than upper dentures. The tissue conditioner enhanced plaque accumulation. The intended permanent soft liner had no significant effect on the amount of accumulated plaque. It could be concluded that more hygiene is required when a tissue conditioner is used for relining complete denture, especially the lower one
