Work injuries and cost in an engineering establishment in Iraq over a period of six years [1980-85]

ABSTRACT
Out of 386 work injuries that occurred in an engineering establishment over a period of six years, 203 injuries were due to the nature of the work while 183 injuries were due to mistakes done by the workers. The average cost of a single work injury was about 122L.D. and a total of 25216 work days were lost because of these injuries. Most of the injuries occurred among workers under 29 years of 890, with less than three years of service. It was found that the number of injuries was more among workers Of low educational standard There was a significant difference in accident occurrence among the months of the year [P < 0.05], days of the week [P <0.01] and the hours of the day [P <0.01]. The study recommended heath and safety program to the establishment
