ABSTRACT
Four seminal plasma enzymes [acid and alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase [LDH] and glutamic oxalacetic transaminase [GOT]] were estimated in 50 males [10 normal control and 40 infertile presenting with either azoospermia or oligozoospermia]. The results of this study show a marked decrease in the activity of alkaline phosphatase [p < 0.001] as well as LDH [p < 0.01] in the subfertile groups compared to normal control. There is no difference in the activity of acid phosphatase between the studied groups and the control. This study, also show no significant difference in the activity of GOT between normal control and azoospermic patients, but the activity of this enzyme decreases significantly [p < 0.0001] in oligozoospermia of both types compared to normal controls. Regarding the infertile groups, no difference was recorded between any of them as concerning acid and alkaline phosphatase activity. LDH activity is significantly higher [p < 0.01] in oligozoospermia compared to azoospermic group. On the other hand, GOT activity is significantly higher [p < 0.001] in azoospermia as compared to oligozoospermia of both types
