ABSTRACT
Ophthalmic artery pressure was bilaterally measured in 30 patients with central retinal artery occlusion, retinal vein thrombosis [central or branch] and anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy. An age matched control group of 10 subjects was also included. Ophthalmic artery pressures, both systolic and diastolic were remarkably lower on the affected side than on the other side or the control eyes. A systemic vasodilator [Stugeron 25 mg, 3 tablets day] was administered to 14 patients and the ophthalmic artery pressure was remeasured two weeks later. The post treatment readings revealed a beneficial effect of systemic vasodilators on blood flow in the territory of the ophthalmic artery
