ABSTRACT
Our study concerns 840 cases of upper gastro-intestinal bleeding collected in the internal medicine department of Casablanca university hospital. The source of bleeding has been established in 92.5% of cases by fibroptic endoscopic examination of the upper gastro-intestinal tract. The most frequent lesions were gastro-duodenal ulcer [36%], [duodenal ulcer was found in 27.6% of cases]; acute mucosal lesions of gastro-intestinal tract [26.5%]; oesophageal varices [16.9%]. The association of medications suspected to cause upper gastro-intestinal bleeding was found in 10.6% of cases. Association of lesions was also noted. In 7.5% of cases, no specific endoscopic diagnosis was made. The source of bleeding was nearly definible when the interval from the begining of bleeding to endoscopy was short
