ABSTRACT
This study was conducted on 543 males and 603 females in order to establish the normal reference value for plasma transferrin using rate nephelometry. A significant difference was found in the mean values and ranges in the male and female populations and a positive correlation was demonstrated between the transferrin level and age. The results showed a normal transferrin distribution. It was found that for males the normal reference value for transferrin was 310 +/- 125 mg/dl while for the females the reference value was 335 +/- 170 mg/dl. Among the children [= 10 years] a plasma transferrin range of 290 +/- 100 mg/dl is suggested as a normal reference range
