ABSTRACT
The aim of the present study was to [1]. Investigate and analyze the role of genetic factor in breast cancer from Malaysian patients with either early-onset breast cancer [at age family history. [2]. Possible set up of a screening and diagnostic kit. 3. Possible development of drug formulation against breast cancer. In collaborating with the IIUM Breast Centre and the Surgery Department at Hospital Tingku Ampuan Afzan [HTAA], Kuantan, 100 peripheral blood samples were collected from women with either early-onset breast cancer of a positive family history of breast cancer. Mutations were detected in exon 11 of BRCA1 gene by Protein Truncation Test [PTT] further sequencing was carried out. We could not observed any truncated protein in any of the 100 samples. In spite of reports in literature from other countries documenting evidence of protein truncation mutations in exon 11 BRCA1 gene in early onset breast cancer patients, no such mutations were detected in this study. This probably implies that for patients from this region, one should look for mutation in other segments of exon 11
