ABSTRACT
Prosthodontists frequently encounter patients who have completely edentulous upper jaws and partially edentulous lower jaws with retained mandibular canines. A clinical study was carried out to compare the effect of interim tooth - attached dentures and complete overdentures on the periodontium of the retained mandibular canines as abutment teeth. Twenty patients having only remaining mandibular canines were selected and classified into two equal groups. For group [I], maxillary complete conventional dentures and mandibular interim tooth- attached dentures were constructed. Maxillary complete conventional dentures and mandibular complete overdentures were made for group "II". The periodontium of the abutment teeth was tested immediately and six months after wearing the corresponding denture to evaluate and compare between the two tested types of dentures. The results showed that complete overdenture was more valuable and suitable than interim tooth- attached denture
