Synthesis and biological activity of certain 5-mercapto 3- [3-pyridyl] 4H-1,2,4-triazole derivatives

ABSTRACT

Reaction of 2-[5-mercapto-1,3-4-oxadiazol-2-ylmethyl]-4-benzyl-1 [2H]-phthalazinone [2] with the appropriate halogeno compounds afforded the corresponding thioether derivatives [3a-q]. On the other hand, applying Mannich conditions on the previously mentioned intermediate [2] yielded the N-Mannich bases [5a-i]. The biological activities of the prepared compounds were screened against several strains of bacteria. Some of the N-Mannich bases showed the highest inhibition effect against all the test compounds
