ABSTRACT
Vertical osseous defects are those that happen when alveolar bone loss occurred in an oblique direction. Periodontal regenerative procedures using bone grafts are reported to be a feasible modality of periodontal therapy for management of periodontal vertical osseous defects. The objective of this study to evaluate and report the results of management of series of patients present clinically with vertical osseous defects and infrabony pockets using human autogeous and/or xenograft bone materials. Total of 10 vertical osseous defects and 28 sites with deep infrabony pockets [> 6 mm] clinically treated with regenerative osseous surgery using bone grafts. The following clinical parameters measured for the selected sites both presurgical and during follow up periods with an average of 6.8 months postsurgical Probing Depth [PD], Recession [R] and Clinical Attachment Level [CAL]. The average PD reduction was 4.2 mm, the average amount of R increased postsurgical was 1.6 mm and the average amount of CAL gain was 2.6 mm. This study concludes that improved clinical attachment levels and pocket depth reduction may obtained after regenerative surgery using bone graft materials in the treatment of vertical osseous defects and infrabony pockets
