Immunohistochemical evaluation of c-erbB-2 oncogene expression in benign lesions in situ and infiltrating carcinomas of breast

ABSTRACT

The expression of c-erbB-2 oncogene protein product was investigated using an avidin-biotin immunoperoxidase technique on formation fixed paraffin embedded tissue. The oncogene product, was present in 5/19 of comedo ductal carcinoma [26.3%] and one case on in situ apocrine ductal carcinoma. Other types of in situ ductal carcinoma did not express the oncogene. The demonstration of c-erbB-2 by immunohistochemistry is of limited value in the diagnosis of difficult cases of mammary carcinoma
