Laparoscopic cholecystectomy: a preliminary report-a prospective analysis of 75 initial cases

ABSTRACT
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy quickly emerged as an alternative to open cholecystectomy. During the last 12 months [Nov.90 - Nov.91], 75 consecutive laparoscopic cholecystectomies with no death and a morbidity rate of 5% [four of 75 patients; 1 major and 3 major] were performed. This study included six patients with acute cholecystitis. Operating time improved significantly from month 1 to month 12 [180 minutes versus 45 minutes, respectively], indicating a rapid learning curve
