ABSTRACT
endometrial biopsies of 777 infertile women were included in this study. Five hundred and eighty patients were complaining of primary infertility [PI] and 197 of secondary infertility [SI]. Failure of ovulation was a primary cause of infertility. it was more prevalent in primary infertility than in secondary infertility patients, more common in younger age groups [85.4% versus 75%]. Luteal phase insufficiency [LPI] as assessed histopathologically was relatively more common in older patients with [SI] Than with [PI]. Abnormal endometrium and non specific endometritis was found in 36 patients including 8 tuberculous endometritis, this study emphasizes the impor-in patients with SI increasing with age from about 17% at 20-24 years up to more the 40% in patients over 40 years, however LPI was also noticed in patients with PI. though less common [ppatients below 25 years to 26% in patients over 40 years. Normal secretory endometrium was observed in 20% of the patients with PI and 17% of SI. Thirty six patients were found to have chronic endometritis most of whom were of SI [7.6%] while only 2% were in the primary infertility group. It is contemplated whether this abnormal endometrium was the primary casus of infertility or there were other factors concerned i.e tubal pathology tance of the histopathological study of endometrial biopsy in the evaluation of infertility
