ABSTRACT
The experience with 257 cases of elective cholecystectomy done at King Khalid University Hospital in Riyadh is presented. Male to female ratio of 14.7 was similar to Western experience, but the disease is affecting our Saudi females at significantly lower age. A high incidence of hepatitis was noted [7.7%] with a significant higher incidence in the males [17.7%]. Bacteriobilia and wound infection incidence were similar to the International Standard. The increased morbidity noticed in cirrhotics was not different from that reported in western series
