ABSTRACT
Hepatocellular carcinoma [HCC] is one of the world most common malignancy, there are over 250.000 new cases of HCC each year. This study was designed to find out if there is any possible causal relationship between HCC and certain environmental conditions such as chronic hepatitis B virus infection and schistosomiasis. Forty eight subjects were included in this study based on clinical ground, they were classified into two groups Group I [HCC group] and group II [liver cirrhosis group]. From this study, it is concluded that HCC is not rate in Egypt as was previously though, HBV infection sees to be a principal etiological factor and may be considered as initiator for malignant state. It seems that schistosomiasis has no significant role in the genesis of HCC, its presence being merely coincidental
