Acute bronchospasm presenting to a University Hospital in Pakistan, an experience with 59 patients

ABSTRACT
This is the first study of its type done on patients with Acute Bronchospasm in Pakistan. The prevalence of various symptoms categories among a group of 59 patients presenting with acute bronchospasm was- Intermittent wheezing 49/59 [83%], chronic phlegm production 15/59 [25%] and nasal symptoms 13/59 [22%]. Most of the seasonal worsening of symptoms occurred in winter. 42/59 [71%] knew their treatment. Of these only seven subjects were using metered dose inhalers. The rest were on oral therapy. The most popular medication was oral beta-agonists. Despite being seriously ill, our patients were not on adequate anti-wheezing therapy at the time of presentation
