Migraine is characterized by an aura which is followed by headache and ergot preparations play a key role in its treatment. Beta blocker and tricyclic antidepressants are widely used as prophylactic agents. This preliminary study showed that patients who responded poorly to conventional drugs, and had unstable EEG responded remarkably well to carbamazepine
