ABSTRACT
To assess acute tissue damage following ESWL fifty patients were studied at Department of Urology, Mayo Hospital, Lahore between April 1991 to May 1992. Tissue damage was assessed by haematuria, proteinuria, changes in serum and urinary concentrations of glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase [GOT], lactate dehydrogenase [LDH] and renal ultrasonography. This study revealed that all patients suffered from acute tissue damage following ESWL which was transient and completely reversible. All parameters returned to the base line within four weeks
