ABSTRACT
This study included 50 subjects divided into two groups. Group I [control] comprised 30 healthy persons, 16 males and 14 females with ages ranged between 25 - 50 years with normal wrists were evaluated to obtain normal carpal anatomy. Group II [patients] comprised 20 patients, 10 males and 10 females, with ages ranged between 15 - 40 years. Seven of them suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, six suffering from Kienbock disease, and seven had non United fracture of scaphoid. A posteroanterior view of both wrists were done to determine the carpal height ratio and carpal height index to evaluate the progression of the collapse of the wrists in them. In this study the carpal height index was superior to carpal height ratio in evaluation of unilateral wrist disease and can be used accurately, reproducibly and quantitavely to evaluate stage III Kienblock disease, nonunited fracture of scaphoid and rheumatoid arthritis
