ABSTRACT
Chromium is being used in industry for almost two decades. Since then, the adverse effects of its compounds on human health were reported. The effects of perfusion of isolated toad's heart with Potassium Mono [K2Cr2O7] were investigated. Electrocardigram [ECG] was recorded before and after application with 1ml of either solutions mM/L]. Perufsion with Monochromates resulted in server changes of the ECG parameters mainly in the heart rate [HR] which decseased significantly while conduction time [P-R], contlactile force [R] and repolarization [T] increased also significantly. Dichromate solution induced milder, nonsignificant changes. Several cases of cardiac disorders were noticed after perfusion with each of the two compounds. Monochromates had also more severe abnormalities than Dichromates. These cases were represented as different types of arrhythmias such as bradycardia, tachycardia and sinus arrhythmias. Different degrees of A-V block; 1s, 2nd and complete block were also noticed as well as S-T segment elevation or depression. The effects mentioned above indicate direct toxic effects on the heart as ischaemia and infarct. Potassium monochromate proved by have more toxic effects than dichromates on the heat
