ABSTRACT
This study included 25 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of different head and neck regions. Immunohistochemical studies [immunofluorescent and immunoperoxidase] were done for the detection of IL-I alpha at the of the lesion and to correlate its presence with the clinical, histopathological and radiological findings. No relation could be found as regards the age, site ad the presence of 2ry lymph nodes or distant metastasis. Definite synergistic relation was present concerning the undifferen tiation of the malignant cells and the degree of local bone or cartilage erosion. Local tissue destruction should be considered in all cases with high concentration and activity of IL-I alpha before starting the treatment
