Antithyroid auto-antibodies as detectors for at-risk pregnancy

ABSTRACT
60 pregnant women in the first trimester, with a history of recurrent spontaneous abortion and had no explanation for their recurrent spontaneous abortion [study group] were compared with 20 healthy clinically euthyroid pregnant women in the first trimester with negative history of abortion, still birth or preterm delivery [control group]. When cut off points of positivity for thyroid autoantibodies were taken as an increase of more than one st and ard deviation [SD] above the mean of the control group, out of 60 women 22 [36%] were positive for either one or both thyroid autoantibodies, but only 4 [20%] out of 20 women of control group.
