Laparoscopy an effective diagnostic and therapeutic tool in surgery

ABSTRACT
A study of 414 patients who underwent laparoscopy from Jan 93 to Jun. 95 was carried out. The age of patients ranged from 13 to 72 years, of these 220 were female 194 were male. In 240 cases some therapeutic procedure like cholecystectomy, adhenolysis, appendicectomy, fundoplication was done. In rest laparoscopy was only diagnostic including 103 biopsies. Indications for laparoscopy were chronic cholecystitis 27%, post-operative adhesions 18.7% and appendicitis 6.9%. The advantages of laparoscopy were high diagnostic value shorter stay, cosmesis and minimal morbidity
